Temba Mliswa accuses CG Mutamba of being a "money lover" after Sonja arrest
Former Norton legislator claims ZRP corruption runs deep, warns those abusing authority that their "bubble will burst soon
Former Norton legislator Temba Mliswa has launched a fierce attack on Zimbabwe Republic Police Commissioner General Stephen Mutamba following the arrest of Sonja Chivayo. Taking to X, Mliswa accused Mutamba of presiding over a deeply compromised police institution and argued the matter involving Sonja should have been treated as a civil dispute rather than a criminal one.
Mliswa claims police corruption runs deep
Mliswa alleged that corruption has become deeply rooted within the ZRP, with officers acting according to financial interests rather than professional principles. He argued that ordinary citizens bear the heaviest cost under such a system.
He also revisited his own arrest, claiming he was detained because officers acted on paid instructions. He said two officers later admitted they had simply followed orders, and that he was eventually acquitted in court. He argued the incident exposed dangerous weaknesses within Zimbabwe's justice system.
Warning of a future fallout
Mliswa warned that those abusing authority would eventually face consequences, repeatedly stating that "one's bubble will burst soon." He claimed evidence exists to support his allegations and insisted the claims could be defended in court if necessary.
He also criticised assumptions of political or ethnic protection, warning against any belief that individuals stand beyond public accountability. His remarks have intensified debate around policing, accountability, and alleged corruption within Zimbabwe's law enforcement structures.
