National Sports Stadium Handed Back to Government After Major Refurbishment
Venue revamped through Sakunda Holdings partnership; CAF clearance now in sight
Major Upgrades Completed
The rehabilitation project included a new playing surface, replacement bucket seats, upgraded dugouts, refurbished changing rooms, and improvements to the players' tunnel and technical areas. Minister Anselem Sanyatwe confirmed the venue is now fit for use.
Sakunda Praises Partnership With Government
Sakunda COO Mberikwazvo Charles Chitambo noted 60,000 bucket seats were purchased, with 44,000 installed — bringing the stadium's safe seating capacity to 44,000.
Football Leaders Welcome Development
ZIFA president Nqobile Magwizi praised the project and said only finishing touches remain before CAF inspections. PSL chairperson Isaiah Mupfurutsa added it will ease pressure on venues like Rufaro Stadium.
CAF Clearance in Sight
Remaining work — entrance gates and changing room tiling — nears completion. The recent Harare Derby drew over 25,000 fans, underlining the appetite for top-level football.
